I’ve been listening to your questions and requests online, and have decided to explain the idea of bio-individuality as an introduction to the importance of developing a food journal. A food journal or tracker can help you improve your relationship to food and to your body.  It can be a powerful way to:

  • Track allergies
  • Monitor bloating
  • Improve digestive discomfort of any sort
  • Eliminate Eczema, Acne, or skin problems
  • Improve Immunity
  • Decode relationships between food and mood

Food makes a big difference in the way we perceive and experience the world. Roger Williams author of  ‘Biochemical Individuality’ explains how personal differences influence overall health. These main differences include: genetics, metabolism, and personal history.

These brings me to one famous quote from Dr. Seuss :

“Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive that is youer than you.”

The idea of Bio-individuality can become a liberating agent for many involving their relationship to food.  For example, I started a food journal in order to track my reactions to dairy and sugar a while ago.  I went through an elimination diet, and noticed that both of these were two big influencers on my health and mood. I know that sugar (refined or not) has to be consumed in moderate amounts because it affects my mood significantly. In my family, there is a history of diabetes. Yes, the doctor could have told me that yet, not until I developed consciousness over the effects of sugar in my life though a journal, was I able to fully embrace my lesson. I was able to take full responsibility for my sugar consumption, and to willingly make needed accommodations. Food journals are methodical ways to start small in order to make big lifestyle differences.
